ME

ME

I am a visual artist from Kokkola, Finland, who works with several different mediums depending of the nature of the subject. I paint, draw and make different kinds of installations. My artistic work is more exploratory. I like to work on topics as entities, where the entity forms some kind of message. Ecological values as well as our relationships with other people and the world around us are enduring issues for me. I react to the events of the environment from my own point of view, and comment on the prevailing moods in my works.

I choose the medium I use according to the subject. I like recycled materials, and I try to use them in my works whenever I can. The history written on the goods overlapping with the new purpose fascinates me. I like that there is some meaning between the topic and the chosen medium. I have chosen charcoal for my newest works. In this case, the ease of working with charcoal is combined with a strictly controlled topic.

I often use a self-portrait as a character to present things. However, my goal is that the artviewer could be able to override the idea of the artist’s self-image, and the person in the works could only act as a figure and form for the viewer to find a surface for identification and make insights into himself/herself and the surrounding world.
